What dentists are saying

Real teams. Real retention gains.

What dentists are saying

More new patients won't fix a leaky bucket.

If you doubled your new patient flow tomorrow, would your practice actually be more profitable — or just more chaotic?

For most practices, the honest answer is more chaotic. Patients come in the front door and quietly leave through the back: unscheduled treatment, lapsed hygiene patients, new patients who never return. That's not a marketing problem. It's a team and systems problem — and it's exactly what Dentistry Is a Team Sport was written to solve.

  • The First Impression System: turn a patient's very first visit into the start of long-term loyalty.

  • The Hygiene Loyalty Loop: keep your existing patients coming back, instead of quietly drifting away.

  • Case acceptance as a team skill — not just something resting on the dentist's shoulders.

  • How great internal systems make external marketing a force multiplier, instead of a leaky investment.

The core concept

Where is your practice actually leaking?

Most practices focus all their energy on filling the bucket — and never check for the holes. Dentistry Is a Team Sport walks through exactly where patients quietly exit, and gives your team the system to seal each leak.

  • New patient inquiries

  • First visit, no clear next step

  • Unscheduled recommended treatment

  • Hygiene patient goes quiet

  • Retained, returning patient

The red points are where most practices lose patients they already earned.

The Leaky Bucket — Chapter 1

Imagine you are standing in your practice, and I hand you a bucket. Every drop of water in that bucket represents a new patient, a new case opportunity, and a new stream of revenue. Now look down at the bucket. It has five holes in the bottom.

No matter how hard the faucet runs, the water pours right through. You are spending money to fill a bucket that cannot hold what you are putting into it. You have two choices: turn the faucet up as high as it will go, or patch the holes.

The New-Patient Mirage — Chapter 2

Ask most dentists what their single most important marketing goal is, and they will give you the same answer without hesitation: more new patients. There is just one problem: it is often the wrong number to chase.

The goal is not the maximum number of new patients. The goal is the right number of ideal patients — patients who value your care, accept your treatment recommendations, refer their friends and family, and remain loyal to your practice for years.

— Chapter 2: The New-Patient Mirage

The First Impression System — Chapter 8

When a patient decides to call your practice, they are not just looking for a dentist. They are looking for reassurance. At that exact moment, your marketing has done its job. The baton is passed to your team.

The first ten seconds of that phone call will determine the entire trajectory of the patient relationship. This is why the front desk is not an administrative role. It is the most critical sales and marketing position in your entire practice.
